Come From Away returns to Canada with Sheridan alumni on board

When Come From Away returns to Toronto next year, it will feature an all-Canadian cast including music theatre alumni Ali Momen, Saccha Dennis (’04), Eliza-Jane Scott, Sue Dunstan (’95), Kate Etienne (’08) and Amir Haidar (’12). The heart-warming musical, which began at Sheridan’s Canadian Music Theatre Project, won a Tony for best director.

Secret Location receives funding for new work

Secret Location has received $525,000 for three new gaming projects. The money is part of the Ontario Media Development Corporation’s interactive digital media funding. Secret Location was one of 97 companies to earn a share of $10 million. Ryan Andal (Interactive Multimedia ’05) and Pietro Gagliano (Bachelor of Design ’06) are partners in the studio.

Grad’s new book ready for vacation reading

Jennifer Gibson (Illustration ’92) is the author of Hope, the fourth book in a series that follows a hearing-impaired teenager as she grows from high-school student to an independent young woman. The novel is now available on Amazon.

Athletic therapy alumna brings skills to national basketball team

Mary Lalancette (Athletic Therapy ’12), pictured right, has spent the last seven years working with Canada Basketball, and was recently named the lead therapist for the program’s youth development men’s program. She told the Halifax Chronicle Herald her time at Sheridan introduced her to “some great (professors) and different people.”

Glass blowing grads open up about a risky business

Claire Anderson (Craft & Design ’11) and Steve Woodruff (Crafts & Design ’10) shared the risks of glass blowing in an article in the Niagara Falls Review. The couple, who recently opened Studio Vine Glass, reflected on their work and the market for consumers looking for unique, beautiful products.

Grads nominated for Emmys

Four Sheridan alumni have been nominated for Emmys in casting and sound editing, including Stephanie Gorin (Music Theatre ’81) who earned her fifth nomination for casting the television series Fargo. Alex Bullick (Media Arts ’02), Tyler Whitham (Media Arts ’06), and Craig Henighan (Media Arts ’95) all earned nods for sound editing.

This summer, the work of many grads featured prominently at Toronto’s Fringe Festival. Ben Hayward (Theatre and Drama Studies ’13) is the director of a documentary called The Food Project, while Jennifer Walls (Music Theatre ’05) performed in four shows.
