Art and art history grad wins prestigious award

Congratulations to Dorian FitzGerald (Art and Art History ’05), winner of the 2017 Laura Ciruls Painting Award. The award recognizes an Ontario-based, mid-career painter. FitzGerald creates large paintings of excessive subject matter, including a throne room in a palace in Lisbon and a beer hall in Munich (pictured).

Alumna performs in Sousatska

This spring, Allison McCaughey (Music Theatre – Performance ’04) was part of the cast of Sousatska, a musical that played in Toronto. McCaughey was a member of the production’s chorus. Sousatska tells the story of a young piano prodigy who escapes apartheid in South Africa.

Alumna nominated for Emmy

Courtney Goldman (ATVF ’08) has been nominated for a daytime Emmy award in the Outstanding Single Camera Editing category. She is being recognized for her work on the TV Show Odd Squad on PBS. This is her second Emmy nomination. The daytime Emmys are handed out at a series of galas in late April.

Jamal Campbell, pictured, (Bachelor of Illustration ’14) and Scott Hepburn (Art Fundamentals ’96) are now successful comic illustrators. They talked about getting discovered and shared their paths to success during ComiCon, a trade show and celebration of comics.

John Soleas’ (Bachelor of Illustration ’15) art takes on suburban boredom, and it recently earned him a place on CBC’s television’s Exhibitionists, where he talked about how urban environments can inspire. Check out his work.

Jason Barbeck (Music Theatre Performance ’91) celebrated the premier of his new film Adams Testament on April 18 in Toronto. The film follows one father’s attempt to save his son’s soul, which is under seige from demons.
